UTILITY back Scott van Breda believes a “fearless” culture is being created at Worcester Warriors as they look to extend their winning streak this weekend.

A young Warriors side will make the trip to north London to face league champions Saracens in the Premiership Cup tomorrow (3pm).

But Worcester are on a run of five straight victories in all competitions and van Breda insists his team are “not really afraid” of any challenge.

The 26-year-old is poised to make his first start for Warriors following his summer switch from Jersey Reds but reckons the vibe at his former club was not too dissimilar to what he was experiencing at Sixways.

“Once we started playing well (at Jersey) and got a few wins it created that culture where you become fearless,” van Breda said.

“That’s what we are starting to get now whereas if you are struggling week in week out you can go into your shells and become quite safe.”

Van Breda felt the tries Warriors scored in the 31-12 cup triumph at Leicester Tigers last weekend emphasised how confident the players were feeling.

“I was lucky to be there sitting in the middle of the Leicester crowd and got a real feel for it,” said the South African.

“At one point Leicester were attacking and the next we went the length of the field to score a few times.

“That’s the confidence bleeding as the guys are really backing themselves whereas before you would set a phase and kick it out.

“If we see an opportunity we play what is in front of us and that’s what’s getting us really excited.”

With Warriors’ Premiership stars being rested ahead of next Saturday’s league encounter at Bath a number of academy players will get a chance to shine at Sarries.

And van Breda, who missed the start of the season due to a shoulder injury, said they were “relishing” the clash.

“People may have laughed that we had put out a stronger team in the past two weeks but momentum is a funny thing,” van Breda said.

“Winning can become a habit and that’s what we are developing at the moment.

“Sarries have got depth throughout and are putting out teams of real quality week in week out.

“We know it is going to be a tough challenge but that’s something we are relishing.

“You want to play against the best players so it’s an exciting opportunity.”

Reflecting on Warriors’ 38-27 victory at Stade Francais in the European Challenge Cup last month, van Breda added: “We showed what we can do out there. We are not really afraid.

“We can go to anyone and play our game.

“If we can do all our things right and assert ourselves on Sarries then we can get a positive result.”
