TOUGH-tackling teenager Ted Hill has “written off” some of his team-mates in training due to his full-blooded approach to the game according to head coach Rory Duncan.

And Duncan has urged the promising Worcester Warriors flanker not to hold back when he meets up with the England squad tomorrow.

Hill will fly out to Portugal to train with Eddie Jones’ men ahead of next month’s autumn internationals after being named as an ‘apprentice’ player.

The surprise call-up came like a bolt from the blue to the 19-year-old who was told on the morning of the squad announcement by director of rugby Alan Solomons.

But Duncan said he was not shocked by the inclusion of Hill who has made a big impact for Warriors this season.

“He might be young but he is extremely talented,” said Duncan who joined Worcester in the summer.

“When I first saw him play I said this guy is going to play international rugby. We all thought it at the club.

“He is an extremely hard worker and a hell of a nice guy to work with.

“He has certainly got his feet on the ground so I am very excited for him and hope he gets an opportunity.”

Hill, who is part of Warriors’ academy set-up, has scored four tries in five first-team appearances this term including a brace on his Premiership debut at Leicester Tigers.

When asked what his message was to Hill ahead of the England training camp, Duncan said it was “don’t hold back”.

“Ted is one of the most physical guys on the training pitch,” the South African continued.

“He has written off a couple of guys in our sessions as he knows one pace and that’s 100 per cent which is great.

“He just needs to carry on what he has been doing as he has been absolutely solid in our training sessions.”

Harlequins’ Marcus Smith and Bath’s Zach Mercer did not play for the Red Rose when they were given the apprentice status last year as Jones had picked the pair to gain experience of the national set-up.

England face South Africa on November 3, New Zealand on November 10, Japan on November 17 and Australia on November 24 at Twickenham.

On Hill’s chances of featuring, Duncan said: “I am not too sure what the strategy is for the England team.

“Seeing him play international rugby would be fantastic for him and the club.”

Uncapped tighthead prop Nick Schonert and fit-again centre Ben Te’o have also been called up by Jones.

Te’o made his first competitive appearance since May when he came off the bench in Warriors’ 27-21 victory over Ospreys in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday.

But the 31-year-old was at fault for Ospreys’ third try as his pass was intercepted by Cory Allen who sprinted through to score.

“Ben hadn’t played for quite some time so it was good to see him back,” Duncan said.

“I thought he came on in difficult circumstances as we weren’t on the front foot.”

On Te’o’s attributes, Duncan added: “I have only been working hands on with Ben for the past two weeks. But he is obviously a physical player.

“If you are looking for a guy with momentum Ben is your man. He has got the ability to make decisions as well.”
