THREE martial arts competitors from Worcester and Kempsey clubs have been crowned world champions.

The Master Clive Harrison’s Family Taekwondo aces triumphed at the Word United Martial Arts Championships at Worcester's Perdiswell Leisure Centre over three days.

Assistant instructor Rachael Harrison, who won the Professional Unification of Martial Arts worlds in 2011, added a second title with gold in the women's black belt pattern category.

Lily Silsby, already a national victor, won gold too in her first world championships in the junior black belt patterns section.

Also in her first major tournament, Alice Laverty claimed the women's senior coloured belt patterns category.

Chief instructor Clive Harrison, an eighth dan, was the oldest competitor on the day at 66 and took silver in the men’s masters pattern division, narrowly missing out on gold.

Rachael Harrison also bagged silver in the final of the -60kg black belt women's sparring.

Silsby added silver in the girls' black belt over 12 sparring division final after a split decision.

Lukas Kwiatkowski, in his first major tournament, also won silver in the men's +80kg sparring coloured belt division.

Proud Clive Harrison said: "Because of the nature and pressure of a world championships I selected a small squad that I believed could handle the pressure and perform on the day.

"I’m pleased to say our team were fantastic and did our clubs proud.

"You never know what to expect in a tournament of this calibre but the training and coaching paid off and I’m over the moon for the guys who gave it their all on the day."
