REDDITCH United brought their number of summer signings to nine after Declan Benjamin and Joel Meade agreed to join the club.

The Reds have continued their preparations for the new Evo-Stik Southern League Central Division campaign by bringing in the duo.

Benjamin, a 27-year-old midfielder, will add quality and experience to the squad having enjoyed spells with Banbury United, Kidlington FC and playing an integral part in Oxford City’s promotion to the National League South.

Manager Paul Davis said: “With over 200 appearances for Oxford City, being part of the club’s rise to the National League, Declan is clearly a player that can play at a high level. As a result, we had to fight off strong competition to secure his services, so I am delighted that he has chosen to play his football at the Trico Stadium.

“He will dictate games and will chip in with goals, but, more importantly, he will be a leader for us and that will be crucial ahead of the new season.”

Meade is a player that The Reds’ boss will know well having played under his stewardship at Banbury United and Ardley United. Meade is also familiar with Benjamin, having also being part of the promotion-winning Oxford City side.

Davis added: “Joel is a central defender that reads the game well and will fancy his chances in a race with any striker. Again, there were a lot of clubs vying for his signature, so it is testament to the football club that we have been able to attract such a sought-after player.”

Benjamin and Meade will join fellow new recruits Jordan Mills, Louis Ezewele, Nathaniel Lewars; Jamie Ashmore, Luke Keen, Max Loveridge and Montel Gibson when pre-season gets underway on the June 28.
