DARREN Byfield praised the character of his Redditch United players after they recovered from their midweek defeat at Kettering by putting Farnborough to the sword on Saturday.

Reds picked up the 3-1 away win thanks to goals from new recruit Andi Thanoj, in-form Dior Angus and Spencer Weir-Daley.

They regrouped following last Tuesday's 1-0 loss at Kettering when they had a share of the spoils snatched away as the hosts hit a last gasp winner.

United move up to fourth following their second win of the new season but it was the way his players bounced back from defeat that pleased Byfield most.

He said: "For me, it was a massive win because of the character we showed.

"Last season we'd have lost again because so often when we lost one we'd then lose two, three or four.

"The players weren't down after Kettering because they knew we deserved something from the game and I told them to go and show what they can do again.

"Their mentality and attitude was spot on.

"Everything is going well at the moment and the team spirit is great. Everyone is working for each other "But the moment you think you've arrived is the moment you'll fall flat on your face. Our challenge is to keep this going and win again and again and string five or six wins together. Nothing is won after three games.

"We're enjoying it at the moment and playing well but we won't get carried away."

Reds will welcome Dorchester Town to the Trico Stadium this Saturday before a trip to Stratford Town next Monday.

They have also been drawn away in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup where they will take on Lincoln United or Belper Town on Saturday, September 2.

Ethan Ross took a knock to the knee at Farnborough but should recover for this Saturday.
