Slough Town 1, Redditch United 1
A PENALTY deep in injury time denied Redditch a win on their final game of the season.
It had looked as though a goal from teenage defender Jack Coates was going to seal a first win in eight games for Darren Byfield’s side but it wasn’t to be as promotion-chasing Slough grabbed their last gasp equaliser.
A dire first half lacked any chances of note apart from a Kaylum Mitchell effort on the turn that forced a save from the home keeper.
The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Coates, still in the Slough penalty box following an earlier corner, was picked out by a delightful Arjun Jung chip into the area and the on loan Aston Villa youngster headed home.
Two minutes later, Slough were given the chance to level when Chris Flood was brought down by Jordaan Brown only for Reds keeper Brad Catlow to save Flood’s penalty.
Fellow substitute Liam Enver-Marum then glanced a header wide of the target and it looked as though Redditch’s season would finish on a winning note.
But in the third minute of injury time, Lewis Putnam was brought down by Coates inside the area and this time it was Enver-Marum who stepped up to take the spot kick and he sent Catlow the wrong way.
