ALCESTER Town stay sixth in Midland League Division Three after clinching a 2-1 win over Castle Vale Town.
It followed a poor first half show from Alcester who were under the cosh from Castle Vale during the early stages but managed to restrict them to long range shots.
Despite being on the receiving end, Alcester stuck to their task and snatched the lead just before half time when Marc Grogan fired home with a left foot finish.
Alcester were much improved in the second half as Luke Grubb began to grab hold of the midfield.
Grogan then struck a second goal after being set up by Davies.
But Grogan then squandered his chance of a hat-trick when firing over following a defence-splitting run and cross from Daniel Mumford.
Castle Vale clawed a goal back and applied late pressure, but Alcester kept them at bay.
Alcester assistant boss, Richard Briggs, said: "We grabbed the first goal at a great time just before the interval. But we were very wasteful and this could come back to haunt us in future games."
Alcester have a local derby on their hands this Saturday when they entertain FC Stratford in a Midland League match.
