IN THEIR final match of the season in Division Three of the Northfield League, Alcester entertained a White Hart team chasing promotion as champions.
The visitors got the win they wanted by 13 shots, with Alcester only able to bag three winning cards from John Alderson (21-9), Val McDermott (21-16) and Dave Hovell (21-17).
The week also saw the final matches in the S&W Birmingham Over-60s League Division Seven.
For Alcester’s A team, a visit to Woodlands brought an excellent win by 28 shots,.
Alcester had five winners in Dave Hovell and Jean Craddock (both 21-10), Ken Harvey and Ken Craddock (both 21-16) and David Whittington (21-20).
The B team meanwhile suffered a home defeat at the hands of King George VI B, going down by 11 shots.
Alcester had three winners in Val McDermott (21-10), John Willis (21-12) and David Hodgson (21-18).
The win was not enough for King George to overhaul Alcester in the league table, however, and the hosts thus finished the season in a creditable fourth place.
With relegation now a real threat, Ye Olde Knowle is not an easy place to go.
Such was the scenario for Alcester’s A team in the Heart of England Over-60s League, who were duly thrashed by 76 shots by the home side.
Not a single winner came Alcester’s way, and relegation seems certain.
For the B team in Division Five it was a different story, as they cruised to a 31-shot success over Woodlands.
Five out of six winners in David Hodgson and Jean Craddock (both 21-12), Terry Scott and Ken Craddock (both 21-14), and Val McDermott (21-20) gave them 15 a safe mid-table position.
