Alcester 34, Claverdon 15
ALCESTER maintained their unbeaten start to the year as they defeat Claverdon in a competitive friendly clash.
Despite their opponents playing a level above, the King's Coughton men were too strong.
With just one fit and available prop in the whole club Alcester were forced to insist on uncontested scrums for this match, but it took little away from an exciting game and an outstanding victory.
The hosts, who had drafted in Arun Bhaduri and Lewis Walker, ran in four first half tries from centre Sam Smith, winger Ryan Clark, flanker Jimmy Watson and stand in captain Glyn Smith.
Hooker Harry Abell made it 24-0 at half-time with a successful conversion having taken over the kicking duties from his captain.
After the break, Claverdon hit back with three tries but Smith and Ryan Clark also touched down to ensure victory.
With two league games to go this season, Alcester hope keep up their promotion push to Midlands Four West (South) at the first attempt when they entertain Trinity Guild on Saturday (3pm ko).
The under-16s drew 12-12 against Evesham, with Josh O'Connor and Cameron Hinckley scoring tries.
The under-15s got the better of Evesham 31-12.
