PAUL Smith has swooped to make a string of key signings as Studley get set to open their Midland Combination Premier Division campaign this Saturday at home to Pelsall Villa.

Smith has snapped up former Alvechurch striker Andy Nicholl, Bromsgrove Sporting midfielder James Turk and former Redditch United player Jack Cresswell, who spent pre season at Southern League Premier side Stourbridge.

He said: “We played against Stourbridge in early pre-season and lost 2-0, when Jack got both the goals.

“But it hasn’t worked out for him with Stourbridge as Jack wasn’t enjoying it there.

“He’s got quite a few friends at Studley so I persuaded him to come along and enjoy himself.

“Andy Nicholl was all set to play for Fairfield Villa this season. He’s a proven striker and scored on his debut in the 2-2 draw with Barnt Green Spartak. He also scored against Sutton United alongwith Will Parker.

“James Turk turned down approaches from Redditch and Evesham United to stay at Bromsgrove Sporting last season.”

Studley were due to face Redditch United last night ahead of their contest with Pelsall Villa at The Beehive.

Smith then squares up to his former club Earlswood Town next Tuesday night at the Victoria Ground.
