IN response to your recent articles on the the future of the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

The Joint Services Review prepared by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in June 2012 and costing over £1 million was dictated to the Worcestershire public claiming all Options ‘C to F’ are “safe” to proceeded to public consultation.

Option F however considered it “safe” to close the Alexandra Hospital in total.

But their mood changed when competition from University Hospitals Birmingham incorporating the Alex became a reality and a preferred outcome by the people of North Worcestershire. The trust amazingly winced, closing that Alex could make the Worcestershire Trust bankrupt.

To Simon Hairsnape of Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG who disregards an UHB/Alex solution, I suggest Option 2 is not “pointless”, but a new Option 3 is pursued which is the logical conclusion.

The Alex goes to UHB by public consent and Worcestershire Royal to Cheltenham and Gloucester NHS Trust (with Kidderminster deciding its own future).

Close the Worcestershire Trust, clear the decks of management waste and thereby save considerable sums for the forgotten taxpayers.
