A MAN with a hammer attempted to steal a motorcycle in Kidderminster but ditched the keys when he couldn't start the bike.

The victim was about to leave his home in The Deansway on his motorbike at around 2pm on Tuesday, July 21 when another bike pulled up to his drive.

The passenger on the motorcycle - a black Yamaha bike with a burned out registration plate - approached the victim, shouting and threatening him with a hammer and demanded that he hand over his keys.

The victim handed over his keys, however the suspect was unable to start the bike.

The suspect then got back on the black Yamaha motorcycle and he and the driver made off in the direction of Hurcott Road, throwing the victim’s keys onto a grassy area at the end of The Deansway.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Officers are appealing for any witnesses or information following an attempted robbery in Kidderminster.

"Both suspects were wearing dark clothing with one rider wearing a black helmet and the other wearing a red helmet.
