HAIRDRESSERS have expressed their joy about being able to open again, some four months after the start of lockdown.

Lisa Davis from Divine Hair Salon, in Barnard’s Green Road, said: “It’s wonderful to be back open and we’ve been super busy with clients.

“Visitors wait outside to be greeted by their stylist who gives them a bag of disposable personal protective equipment, including a gown and towel.

“We are not offering hot drinks as a measure to keep everyone safe as it would be another touch surface.

“The stylists also wear personal protective equipment, including visors.”

Judith Collard who works at WR15 Hairdressing, in Worcester Road, said: “It’s great to be back open again and we are very busy with customers, which is good.

“We did worry that we would have no clients before we reopened but that’s certainly not the case.

“All customers need to wear a face covering and the girls who work here are wearing face shields and stepping up the cleaning in between clients.

“We have hand sanitiser for everyone to use.”

A spokesman for the The Priory Salon in Church Street, said: “We’ve had a big demand for appointments and we clean between every client.

“We have a ‘deep clean’ every Friday by a cleaner who comes in.”

Malvern mayor, Cllr Neil Morton, said: “It’s great to see hairdressers back open again and for income to be generated again in a safe way, helping members of the community.

“I’m certainly in desperate need of a haircut - I was due for a trim before lockdown, so I need to get that sorted!”

Hairdressers ceased trading in late March when ‘non-essential’ shops closed to slow the spread of Covid-19 but were allowed to reopen from July 4 - dubbed 'Super Saturday'.
