AN education service has been nominated for another Worcestershire Education Award.

Discover History has been nominated twice for the Community Involvement Award this year.

James Roberts, who praised founders Paul Harding and his wife Helen, said: “Discover History are fantastic ambassadors for Worcester and the best Heritage Educators I’ve seen in Britain.

“I have heard them speak at St Johns Church once a month. They love to be all inclusive and believe the heritage of the city should be accessible to everyone.

“The Local History Club at St John's Church is free, and once a month they visit and talk about a fascinating piece of Worcester history. We have heard about the Worcester Slums, the Battle of Worcester, Oak Apple Day and even the Worcestershire Regiment in WW1.

“They link all the big events in History to Worcester.

“The club started with a handful of St John's residents. Now we see about 90 people, who have come from across the whole of Worcester.”

Mr Roberts added: “The audience have included children, young adults and teenagers, plus retired people and 80-year olds.

“Their ethos is ‘People of all ages and abilities. Education for all and lifelong learning.’

“They tick all the boxes for me. I also know, from asking them, that they have seen a huge increase in schools booking them. They are clearly well established and praised by everyone who is lucky to see them.

“They always bring props to illustrate their talks, and we can handle these at the end. Technically even those with a visual impairment can learn from these fantastic people. I cannot praise them enough.”
