MANY golf courses in the region will reopen today, seven weeks after shutting amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Gaudet Luce Golf and Leisure Complex in Droitwich was set to reopen today, with some changes.

A spokesman for the club said: “We implore that golfers adhere to the social distancing guidelines and rules that we have in place all across our golf course.

“During this period of embracing the ‘new normal’, we ask that you please bear with us while we try to accommodate all our lovely golfers and try to deal with the rising demand.”

The clubhouse will remain closed until further notice.

The greens have been maintained by groundsmen during the lockdown phase so are ready for play.

Worcester Golf and Country Club in Worcester has also resumed, but tee times need to be booked in advance and players will need to follow the advice from England Golf.

Ravenmeadow Golf Club in Worcester is also now open and will adhere to advice from the England Golf organisation.

A statement on England Golf’s website said: “ The UK Government has today provided clarification on outdoor recreation and rules on social distancing in England.

“These will affect how golf can be played and, in particular, the configuration of groupings on a golf course.”

Worcestershire Golf Club in Malvern is also open and measures include 12 minute intervals between players.

Measures stated by England Golf, who advise all clubs, include two-balls comprising of individuals from different households and, at the discretion of clubs, members of the same household playing in two, three or four-balls.

It also reinforces the Government’s stance that social distancing needs to be adhered to at all times.
