SEVERAL objectors to a plan to build more than 60 affordable homes in Evesham have said traffic would not cope and building more homes would turn a quiet estate into “utter chaos.”

Rooftop Housing Group has put forward plans to build 61 affordable homes on land south off Pershore Road and Cheltenham Road in Evesham.

Several objections have already been submitted by residents concerned over access and the safety of Eastwick Drive, Hamilton Road and surrounding roads as well as congestion in Cheltenham Road.

Objector Jade Cooper of Lingfield Road said: “A lovely, quiet estate will turn into utter chaos.

“Evesham is a lovely town but if you continue to just throw houses up left, right and centre it will be ruined.

“The roads cannot cope, the schools cannot cope and neither can doctors with the number of people in this area already without adding more.”

Joel Turvey of Enstone Way said: “This land marks the historical boundary between Hampton and Evesham. There will not longer be a gap in houses meaning Hampton is simply part of the town. This from a historical point of view is not acceptable. This land should be protected as the boundary of the village.”

Other objections have also raised concerns about the safety on nearby roads if more homes brought even more cars.

A mix of affordable rent and shared ownership homes would be built including eight one-bed maisonettes, three one-bed bungalows, five two-bed bungalows, 26 two-bed homes, 17 three-bed homes and two four-bed homes.

An application by BFP Developments for up to 126 homes on the same piece of land was rejected by the council in 2014 and a subsequent appeal to the government’s planning inspector was also thrown out later that year.

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of Wychavon District Council’s website.

Consultation ends on May 2. The application number is 20/00367/FUL.
