AS PART of our regular monthly series celebrating Herefordshire's schools, St St Mary's Primary School in Fownhope say what they nurture today flourishes tomorrow.

St St Mary's Primary School in Fownhope we are proud to live out our vision by creating a vibrant and happy environment where the children are happy and confident learners.

St Mary's is a thriving rural school in the heart of the village of Fownhope, six miles from Hereford city centre.

We pride ourselves on our warm, welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of community.

As a church school, our vision is based on the 'fruit of the spirit' (Galatians) and these Christian values are lived out in all relationships in school.

Our pupils' opinions and ideas are highly valued, and every decision made is with their best interests at heart.

Hereford Times:

Our Year 6 prefects take on responsibility for specific areas within the school, including the library and the environment.

Children from Years 3 to 6 are elected annually to be part of our Disciples, helping to take the school forward in different ways and to be a voice for their peers. Recently the Disciples have organised a delivery to the Hereford Food Bank and have led our Christmas service in St Mary's Church.

Secure, trusting relationships between adults and pupils lay foundations for successful learning throughout the school.

Teachers and teaching assistants show genuine pleasure in pupils' company. This helps pupils to feel valued as individuals and gives them confidence as learners.

Here at St Mary's we value our role in the community. There are strong links with St Mary's Church and with other members of the village community.

As well as strong academic teaching, we offer many wider curricular opportunities in areas such as sport, music and drama.

Last month 35 children enjoyed visiting the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham for the Young Voices concert. What an amazing experience to sing with 6,000 other children in such a massive arena!

Our children are very proud of their school. A Year 6 pupil said: "It is friendly because it's small".
