CHORISTERS enjoyed a Shrove Tuesday Pancake relay race which took place at the city's Cathedral.
The annual event took place yesterday (February 25) at Worcester Cathedral along the three sides of the cloister.
Twelve children from the cathedral choir, made up of boy choristers and girl choristers attending King’s School Worcester, were split into two teams - named Decani and Cantoris. Cantoris was eventually crowned winner.

Nicholas Freestone, assistant director of music, said: “This is a great opportunity to bring the cathedral community together. The two teams were cheered on by children from King’s St Alban’s. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the King’s School community and the cathedral community together on a weekday morning.”
The schoolchildren had to dribble a football between some cones on one side, balance a small bean bag on their head along another, and pass a hoop over their head on the third, all the time holding a pan with a pancake in it, and flipping it on every corner of the cloister.
The Dean of Worcester, the Very Reverend Peter Atkinson, said: “It’s a race between the two teams of choristers. When the choristers are singing a service in the cathedral, they are in rows that face each other – they are on those two teams. One team is called the Decani which is the dean’s size and the other side is Cantoris which means the precentor side." The race has become a tradition to mark Lent.
