SCHOOLS in Cleobury Mortimer, Church Stretton and Bishops Castle have been given a tick by Shropshire Council.
New figures show that 2019 was another good year for GCSE results.
The GCSE league tables show schools’ key performance measures, including what students have achieved across eight key subjects.
The results indicate that the seven schools with the highest average Attainment 8 score per pupil include: Church Stretton, Community College in Bishops Castle, and The Lacon Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer.

“These results demonstrate the determination and effort of our students during their studies and we congratulate them on their achievements,” said Ed Potter, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for children’s services.
“It is also important to recognise the support that our school communities in Shropshire have given to the students.
“This includes our highly professional and dedicated teachers and headteachers, school governors, support staff, volunteers and, of course, parents and carers, whose support is so vital to students’ success.”
Students from the schools in Cleobury Mortimer, Church Stretton and Bishops Castle will often go on to study for ‘A’ levels at colleges including Ludlow College.
There are two main measures used to plot the success of schools.
These include the performance in GCSE and A-levels looking at the grades achieved by students. Schools also put a high score on how many students are granted places at universities, especially
the so-called red-brick universities.
Another measure looks at progress based upon progress that the students have made since they arrived at school.
