WORCESTERSHIRE has been one of the worst hit counties in the country, as flooding continues to impact the UK following Storm Dennis.

Amongst those areas most severely affected in the county have been Tenbury, Upton-Upon-Severn, Bewdley and Worcester.

Leader of Worcestershire County Council, Councillor Simon Geraghty will be visiting Bewdley and Tenbury, this afternoon.

Councillor Simon Geraghty, said:“We recognise the severe impact that recent storms have had on Worcestershire, and the impact that the subsequent flooding has had on residents, businesses and local communities. The recent rainfall that we’ve seen, following on from an extended period of wet weather, has led to some of the worst flooding in Worcestershire for many years.”

“I am visiting some of those areas that have been hit hardest. I want to talk to people and listen to their concerns as we develop an emergency package of support. I will be announcing further details in the next day or so.”

“I’d like to take this opportunity to place on record my thanks to the Council’s front line staff and to the emergency services teams who have worked tirelessly during the floods to keep the residents of Worcestershire as safe as possible given the challenging and rapidly developing situation.”

Worcestershire County Council continues to work alongside the emergency services, the Environment Agency and with other partners to deal with highways issues and provide support to other services where required.

A number of road closures remain in force across the county.
