THE planned move of fire crew and vehicles from Bewdley has been delayed because of flood related incidents.

The crew at Bewdley Fire Station on Dog Lane were due to move their fire engine and Land Rover to the new Wyre Forest Hub on Stourport Road at midday today (Monday, February 17).

But this has been postponed due to control room staff dealing with flooding incidents "flat out".

In a Facebook post, Bewdley Fire Station said: "The new date for move will announced as soon as is possible. Bewdley Fire crew still covering Bewdley for time being."

A spokesperson from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said: "The event has been delayed due to the operational situation.

"It's a temporary delay purely because we don't know how long this flooding is going to last. The date has to be rescheduled."

Last week, scores of residents marked the end of an era as they gathered to watch the final drill at the station.

A campaign involving the Fire Brigades Union rallied community support to save the station after concerns the closure would put people's lives at risk.

Spokesperson for the Save Bewdley Fire Station campaign Stephen Brown said: "Without Bewdley they are struggling to cope.

"What will they do if they face similar incidents, or worse. This episode proves they haven't got the capacity or resources and that they need to go back to the drawing board."
