A CALL for more money to improve a play area was made after plans to demolish a number of old prefabricated homes to make way for affordable and social housing was given the go-ahead.

Rooftop Housing Group plans to demolish ten homes in Manor Road in Middle Littleton near Evesham and build 21 new affordable homes and social housing.

Cllr Richard Lasota, who represents The Littletons, said his only concern was the increase in homes meant, he had estimated, around 50 children would be living in the homes and have little space to play.

“I have nothing against this application but what I would like to see is some sort of contribution towards the existing play area,” he said.

“If we’re taking all these children on board, we don’t want them playing in the street, they’ve lost half of their gardens if not more and as the facility is already there I would like to see if [Rooftop] would consider contributing.”

The plan, which would see a number of prefabricated homes now more than 50 years old, torn down was backed unanimously by Wychavon District Council's planning committee last Thursday (February 8).

Of the 21 homes, 18 would be offered as social rent – a mix of two-to-six-bed homes and eight maisonettes – and three homes would be offered as shared ownership.

No objections were raised against the plan during consultation.
