SUSPECTS in a machete and baseball bat attack in Worcester have denied attempted murder and violent disorder.

Kaasim Multani, Usman Multani, Shahenul Alam and Istehsan Ulhaq denied both counts when they appeared before Judge Nicolas Cartwright at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.

Omar Idris and Luke Bridger have yet to enter pleas to identical charges following the attack in Wylds Lane, Worcester, on November 24 last year.

The complainant, named in court as Owais Saleem, sustained injuries, including to his face and hand, during an attack at around 1.02am. The judge described the attack in court as 'very violent'.

We have previously reported how a 22-year-old man sustained potentially life-changing injuries and was in a stable condition in hospital in the aftermath of the attack.

The case was prosecuted by Phillip Bradley QC who told the court the complainant was 'repeatedly struck with weapons, at least one a machete and a baseball bat'.

Caroline Stewart represented Usman Multani, 25, of Westminster Road, Ronkswood, Worcester. Harpreet Sandhu appeared on behalf of Luke Bridger, 23, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, Worcester.

Eloise Emanuel appeared for Kaasim Multani, 21, of Westminster Road, Ronkswood, Worcester.

Anthony Barraclough represented Shahenul Alam, 30, of Ivor Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham.

Lynette McClement represented Omar Idris, 22, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood while Sophie Murray represented Istehsan Ulhaq, 21, of Merton Close, Worcester.

Bridger was granted bail on condition he lives and sleeps at Cluny Place, Stoke-on-Trent, remains subject to an electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 7am, does not hae contact with prosecution witnesses and does not enter the city of Worcester unless to see a solicitor or attend court.

Ulhaq was also granted bail on condition he lives and sleeps at Ivy Square, Derby, is subject to an electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 7am, has no contact with prosecution witnesses and does not enter the city of Worcester except to attend appointments with his solicitor or to attend court.

Alam was refused bail. No application was made for bail on behalf of the Multani brothers or Omar Idris.

A date for trial will be fixed administratively this Wednesday once the availability of counsel in the case is known.

The trial has a four week time estimate.
