THE cells at Worcester Police Station are full following a busy New Year for the emergency services, including a string of 'domestic' incidents involving alcohol.

Force duty inspector Tanya Beckett said there had been 'a fair spread' of domestic-violence related incidents involving alcohol across south Worcestershire but mainly outside Worcester city centre.

Inspector Beckett confirmed all 23 cells at Worcester Police Station in Castle Street were full on New Years's day.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had been 'a tough shift' for staff. The service received over a thousand 999 calls in the first six hours, one every 20 seconds. A spokesman said: "It’s been a busy start to 2020. Thanks to all of our staff for your amazing efforts."

The Central Motorway Police Group were only 32 minutes into the first shift of 2020 when they caught their first drink driver of the year, warning drivers: "You can still be over the limit the morning after."

A man died just minutes into the New Year following a crash in Walsall this morning.

Emergency services were called to Pinfold Lane in Great Barr just after midnight where a silver BMW 3-Series had hit a tree.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Walsall, was found in the car with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been notified and are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who was driving near the area last night and may have caught a silver 3-Series BMW on dash-cam, to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat at WMP Online or call 101 and quote log reference 108 from 1 January. Or email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit: FL_COLLISION_INVEST@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk

Police have also issued a fresh appeal to help find missing 14-year-old Teagan Roden from Hereford.

Teagan went missing form her home on Saturday, December 28 but has not returned.

She was potentially seen in Hereford city centre on New Year's Eve around 8pm by a member of the public and is thought to possibly be in the south side of the city in the Ross Road/ Staddlestone circle/Saxon gate areas.

She is described as white, 5ft 8ins, with light brown hair and blonde tips usually worn in a ponytail.

She was last seen wearing a grey jumper, black leggings and black and white Nike trainers.

Officers are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who sees Teagan or knows where she might be is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101.
