A GIRL'S love for animals has inspired her to make a difference, raising vital money for an animal charity.

Molly Graham, 13, decided to give up her pocket money at the start of 2019 to sponsor three endangered animals through the World Wildlife Fund before sponsoring three more in the summer, meaning she had no pocket money all year.

For her 13th birthday in November she again asked for no presents but instead money to be donated to Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS).

Molly created a personalised invite to a birthday brunch explaining what she was doing and why, inviting all her year group.

Eventually, word got round the school and classmates from the Downs School, in Malvern, donated even if they were unable to attend the brunch.

She handed over £470 to the charity in the week of Christmas, and even got her classmates at school to help her out.

Molly’s mother Gilly, said: “Molly and her brother Bertie adore animals and are troubled by the plight of our planet and the impact on animals. They feel animals do not have a voice so very much want to support them.

“Through the generosity of her friends, Molly collected an incredible £470 which WARS were amazed and delighted about.

“As parents, we’re so impressed by her kind heart and generous spirit and the sense of citizenship and social responsibility she shows locally and globally. She continues to sponsor Guide Dog puppies and we await with interest to see what her plans are for 2020.”

Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter was set up in 1983 to address concerns over the number of unwanted animals being abandoned and ultimately destroyed within the county.

It was decided the best way to help would be to have an animal shelter equipped and staffed to take care of abandoned, lost, neglected or unwanted animals.

The shelter, in Newland, has kennels for up to twenty six dogs and a cattery containing twelve pens.
