IT may be hard to imagine Christmas Day without turkey and all the trimmings, but nearly a quarter of Brits would rather eat a CURRY on the big day, according to research released today.
The research from Subway® supports the launch of its new festive menu.
The research found 11.5 million* Brits don’t enjoy the traditional Christmas roast, with over a third (36 per cent) saying they would rather eat something totally non-traditional.
Nearly a quarter of us (24 per cent) regularly complain that turkey is dry, and a third (35 per cent) would prefer our dinner served with roast chicken (35 per cent) or beef (24 per cent).
An astounding 23 per cent of us admitted we’d rather tuck into a curry on the big day, with other popular alternatives including steak (18 per cent), pizza (18 per cent) and Chinese (13 per cent).
Traditional Pigs in Blankets may also be facing extinction – with a fifth (21 per cent) of Gen Z choosing to give them a miss this year.
According to independent spokesman, psychologist Greg Tucker, many more of us may prefer to skip the traditional Christmas roast, but feel the need to persevere in order to get into the festive Spirit:
Greg Tucker commented: “Traditions trigger emotions that we want to experience and being a sensory delight, food is a short-cut to these feelings. But whilst food is the catalyst to these emotions, it isn’t the root cause, so we shouldn’t be afraid to step outside of our comfort zone and enjoy something different this Christmas.”
