AN ‘obsessed’ boyfriend vandalised a car because he was convinced the owner was sleeping with his partner.

Lloyd Maloney was joined by his friend Jamie Ruff at Worcester Magistrates Court after they drunkenly smashed up the Renault Clio at a Droitwich address earlier this month.

Prosecuting, Lesley Ashton said the incident stemmed from “sexual jealousy.”

“Mr Maloney had been in a relationship for three-and-a-half years with a young lady called Lily Maguire.

"He had convinced himself she was in a relationship with someone called Daniel Brunning.

"The defendant believed she was involved with him.”

“On November 9, Mr Brunning was at his address, at this time he gets a message from Lloyd Maloney saying, ‘I’m sending Lily to yours, you can have her.”

A statement from Mr Brunning read: “Then she turned up at my flat with all her bags saying he had kicked her out.

"I had guests over at the time.

"I had a text from Lloyd Maloney, he seems to be obsessed with the idea that me and Lily have been sleeping together, which we haven’t.

"He has done several things to me out of anger like egging my house and leaving condoms on my car.”

“He sent a message saying send Lily back which I did.

"At this point I stopped messaging Lloyd because I was sick of all the drama.”

The court heard that later that night Mr Brunning spotted Malony, 25, of Bays Meadow Droitwich outside, near the front of his flat where his car was parked. The court heard Jamie Ruff, 29, was with him.

The statement from Mr Brunning continued: “I was looking out the window and I could see Lloyd stomping on the bumper, and he smashed the windscreen.

"At the same time Jamie hit the car with his fists.

"Lloyd then kicked the passenger side of the car then kicked the mirror.”

The court heard that the windscreen was completely smashed, the wipers were bent and broken and the back passenger window was smashed.

Mark Lister, defending said: “Mr Maloney has no previous convictions.

"His belief was that his partner was in a relationship with Mr Brunning.

"They have both admitted it, and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

“Mr Ruff has some convictions but all of some age.

"He has some mental health issues. He is seeking help and is now on medication for anxiety and depression.”

Maloney and Ruff who pleaded guilty on November 28 were made to pay compensation of £300 to Mr Brunning and £100 in costs.

Maloney was issued with a restraining order preventing him from contacting Mr Brunning or going to his address.

After he was sentenced, Ruff, of Hipkiss Gardens, Droitwich told the magistrate: “I would like to add that I apologise. It was never meant to go so far.”
