IN a survey carried out four years ago, young people were given 12 offensive words and asked which was the most offensive and sexist.
Six out of 10 young people thought “slut” was ok to use in some circumstances.
However, the word that most 18 to 29 year olds found offensive was “slag” - some 60 per cent found it offensive.
Therefore, it is unfortunate that someone at Alexander’s nightclub in Worcester thought it humourous to display a sign including the term used to describe, in the main, a promiscuous woman.
We are sure it was meant as a joke and there are some people who would not take offence.
However, as Siani Driver said the sign is “objectifying women and how they dress.
“We want to be able to go out and feel safe and not see this kind of thing.” While police and crime commissioner John Campion said it was completely unacceptable to degrade someone for what they choose to wear. It seems on this occasion Alexander’s may have scored an own goal.
Maybe they could come up with a new sign, making young women feel more welcome.
