A NUMBER of highways staff have been injured after people have welded blades to roadwork signs and cones.

Police are appealing for people not to do this and are asking anyone with any information about the incidents, described as 'evil' to get in touch,

Currently there are a number of road works going in the area.

A police spokesman said: "We all know how important it is to drive safely around emergency services and highways staff on the motorway, as they all want to return home to their family.

"We have had reports that people are now placing blades on roadwork cones/signs, and highways staff are being injured when moving or collecting these items.

"Roadworks are an inconvenience we all hate, but deliberately causing harm to highways workers is evil."

They added: "If you see this happening or have any information, please contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. You can also contact highways England on 0300 123 5000."
