A PLAN for a third Lidl in the city has been put forward as one of several new projects in the north of Worcester.
If the building of a new budget supermarket goes ahead, it could mean a busy couple of years in the north of the city. Plans for a new McDonald’s and drive-thru are still to be decided, as is the huge expansion of the Muslim cemetery and plans for a new multi-million pound international-standard hockey centre are expected to come forward soon. All of this on top of a new primary academy on the old park and ride site and hundreds of homes currently being built and soon-to-be built.
Councillors and residents are already raising concerns about traffic and congestion on what is an already busy road which is only set to get busier, but the prospect of more jobs for Worcester surely has to be a positive. Also, to put it simply, if shoppers want another Lidl, let them have one. There has been, and continues to be, much debate about whether another McDonald’s is necessary in that area of the city - and a decision is due next month - but a new Lidl must be welcomed.
