TEACHERS at Hereford Sixth Form College went on strike in protest at "years of underfunding".

It was one of 25 colleges that took part in a National Education Union (NEU) Day of Action.

At Hereford the union reps Lesley Bagshaw and Jenna Dunsford were keen to stress their dispute was not with the college, where they love working.

"The problem is years of underfunding, leaving the 16-plus sector as forgotten. Students receive less funding than those in schools, and college teachers are paid less," they said.

"Despite a government promise in 2015 that funding would be increased, funding per student fell by 16 per cent and teachers feel strongly their students deserve investment.

"These young people are the future of our country and need proper funding."
