A MEMORIAL stone to former pupils has been unveiled at a secondary school to remember those who have died in conflicts since 1914.

A standing stone and 30 stepping stones at Lady Hawkins' School in Kington lists the names of the soldiers.

Four stones remain blank so further names can be added, if found through research.

The piece was unveiled on Monday, November 11 by Deputy Lieutenant of Herefordshire James Hervey-Bathurst and councillor Bob Widdowson, Mayor of Kington.

Stephen Grist, trustee at Lady Hawkin's School, said: "It has been a true community project and the many individuals and local businesses who have helped and contributed to the project were invited.

"Most importantly, the local families related to some of the 'old boys' commemorated on the stones were also invited."

The school thanked the businesses involved, including The Stone Workshop in Weobley, Kington Building Supplies and OTM Garden, Groundwork and Tree Surgery from Hay-on-Wye.
