A WOMAN in her 40s has been rushed to hospital this morning following a horror smash in Dudley which caused gridlock.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Duncan Edwards Way just before 7am this morning to reports of a crash between two cars and a lorry.

A Volvo XC 90 hit the rear offside end of a lorry on the Dudley Southern Bypass before the Flood Street island just before 7am.

Two ambulance crews and two fire crews raced to the scene and the road was closed off.

The female Volvo driver was assessed by medics and taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 30s, suffered injuries and was later discharged at the scene.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Fire Service said: "We sent two crews from the scene from Dudley and Brierley Hill, there were ten firefighters in total.

"The first engine got to the scene in under five minutes.

"It was a collision involving two cars and a lorry. One car was embedded under the rear of the lorry."

The road remains closed for recovery.
