LUDLOW and south Shropshire will benefit from additional funding that is being made available by the Government for schools in rural areas that have lagged behind funding in more urban areas.
Philip Dunne MP has welcomed a boost in per pupil funding for Shropshire’s schools.
Primary schools in the county will receive a 5.1 per cent boost, from £4,059 to £4,252 per pupil, and secondary schools will increase of 4.1 per cent from £4,906 to £5,105 per pupil.
This funding follows the Prime Minister’s announcement in August that the budget for schools and high needs would be increased by a total of over £14 billion over three years, rising to £52.2 billion by 2022-23.
“I am delighted Shropshire schools will receive this welcome boost in funding.
“The county’s MPs have been of one voice in telling government to increase funding for our local schools and have campaigned for years to make clear the additional costs on schools like ours.
“So, this boost is really welcome news for schools, pupils and parents, and shows the Prime Minister is making good on his commitment to increase and make fairer per pupil funding.”
