SIR – You have asserted in your Comment (Motorway driving: put it in the test, August 30) that motorways are dangerous or the most dangerous roads while in fact
this is not the case.
There are far fewer fatalities or serious injuries on motorways than any other type of road.

Yes, they can be frightening and intimidating to inexperienced or nervous drivers but they are the safest roads (source: RAC Foundation).
Anyone not feeling confident about driving on any road or for any reason should either refrain or seek further training.

If they don’t then as we have seen the consequences can be tragic.
