A CHOIR in Malvern is hoping to attract new members at it celebrates its centenary season.

Malvern Festival Chorus is starting its season with an open rehearsal on Tuesday, September 3 followed by a 'Come and Sing' event and concert in Great Malvern Priory on Saturday, September 7.

The choir is inviting anyone interested in singing with a large group of like-minded enthusiasts to register for their Come and Sing event on Saturday 7 September 2019 in Great Malvern Priory.

The works to be explored are Fauré’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria, two of the best-loved pieces in the classical choral repertoire.

Rehearsing will start at 2pm with a performance at 7pm following a break for refreshments including homemade savouries and cakes.

The concert will be open to the public and the singers will be joined by talented young soloists.

Jonathan Brown, musical director of Malvern Festival Chorus said: "It was such a delight to work with students from 9-19 in the National Schools Symphony Orchestra and to experience the enthusiasm and dedication they brought to their music-making.

"A key aim for our Centenary Season is to introduce new, particularly younger, people to the joyful experience of performing and listening to beautiful music.

"The choir came into being as the world was recovering from the turmoil of the war to end all wars and, 100 years later, it continues to offer a welcome respite from the turbulence of our world today.

"Scientific research has shown that singing in a choir helps to improve both emotional and physical wellbeing and we want to offer this opportunity to as wide a range of people as possible."

The Open Rehearsal takes place on Tuesday, September 3 at 7.30 pm in The Chase School Hall, Geraldine Road. For more details and a registration form, visit the Malvern Festival Chorus website at www.malvernfestivalchorus.co.uk.
