FUNDRAISING is continuing for a sculpture made from recycled horseshoes, with a charity event this weekend.

The idea for the Pershore War Horse Memorial Project is the brainchild of resident Sue Cosnett and is backed by Wychavon District Council.

The Warhorse Memorial Sculpture would be a lasting memory to all those servicemen and women and all animals who died in the wars. The group’s target is to raise £12,000 by the end of October to cover the cost of the build, with the sculpture revealed in November.

The horse is being designed and created by blacksmith Steve Ellis Cooper and the plan is for it to be put in the grounds of Pershore Abbey. It will also include a purple poppy.

Sue Cosnett said: “Last year marked the centenary of the First World War and as someone who’s lived in Pershore all my life I wanted to do something positive to mark the occasion within my local community.

"The design itself will reflect not only on our fallen heroes but also the huge number of animals that died alongside them."

The latest fundraiser is being held this Saturday with a charity football match at Pershore Football Club. The game will be between Defford Old boys and New Inn Pershore FC, kick off 6pm. The entry fee is £5 for adults £3 for concessions. There will also be a raffle.

Meanwhile a colouring competition is being held for children to design a purple poppy. The competition is for children aged five to 11-years-old with the winner having a notice plaque displaying the poppy and the child's name by the horse.

Entries can be sent to 12 Lancelott Court, Pershore, WR101RE, and need to be in by September. Anyone wanting to make a donation can do so by visiting justgiving.com/crowdfunding/susan-cosnett-3.
