BOGUS callers stole cash and sentimental jewellery after tricking their way into a Hereford house.

The man told the elderly homeowners that there were gas and electric problems in the area.

He asked them both to step outside their property on Roman Road in Holmer so his boss could show them an area that needed to be dug up.

The couple, who are aged 83 and 89, are said to be 'very trusting' and thought the invented issues were connected to the nearby Bloor Homes development.

However, it is now clear that money, jewellery and bank statements were taken.

The men visited last Wednesday lunchtime and the police are now investigating.

Anyone who received a similar call at their property is asked to call police on 101.
