STUDENTS in Longbridge are being invited to take part in ‘Lens On Longbridge’, a photography competition that encourages young people aged 13 to 18 to explore the local area and capture stunning images of the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The competition, which runs from now until July 19, is being organised by St. Modwen, the developer behind Longbridge’s ongoing regeneration.

Entries will be judged by established Longbridge-born photographer Ross Jukes, who is known for his dramatic cityscapes of Birmingham, with the winner being awarded a new Nikon D3500 Digital SLR camera, worth approximately £300.

Local students wishing to take part can submit their entries via their own social media channels by using the hashtag #LensOnLongbridge, or by emailing attachments to stmodwen@weareliquid.com before the deadline (5pm, July 19).

Images can be taken on either a smartphone or a digital camera and the winning entrant will be notified by July 21.

Chris Newsome, from St. Modwen, said: “Longbridge has undergone so much change in the last decade and there is lots more to come as we press on with plans to create more jobs and offices, green open spaces and new leisure facilities.

"We want to encourage young people to connect with their area and explore the huge amount it has to offer – both now and in years to come.”

Guest judge, Ross Jukes, added: “Longbridge will always have a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to see it through other people’s eyes, especially given that it’s so visually different now from what it was when I was a teenager.

"I’ll be looking out for images that show imagination, show Longbridge in a different light, or capture a unique moment in time.”

Entries to the competition will be shared on Longbridge Life’s Facebook and Twitter channels.

St. Modwen reserves the right to use images entered into the competition for future use, however photographer credits will be given.

Entrants may be asked to provide proof that they meet the entry criteria.
