TEMPERATURES this weekend are predicted be hotter than St Tropez, with the mercury forecast to hit a high of 23C in many parts of the UK.

This will be just in time for sun-lovers to buy their throwaway bbq from the supermarket and invite friends and family around.

Saturday in the county will receive a full 11 hours of sunshine, according to the Weather Wherever website, with Sunday and Monday set to receive a similar amount, with a high of 21C on those days.

Forecaster Simon Partridge from the Met Office said: “After there was a chilly spell this past weekend, we are going to see temperatures gradually increase through the week.

Due to lack of cloud cover, heat built up in the day will escape so night time temperatures could be as low as 7C.

Holiday-makers looking to get away to the seaside, the forecast is expected to be good, with minimum temperatures for coastal areas including Scotland set to be 20C.

However, at this time of year, coastal areas will still be breezy so people are urged not forget your wind-proof.

London will be at the higher end of the scale, at 23C, due to something called the heat island effect.

This is where the built environment retains heat for longer periods when warmed up and releases heat energy over a longer period.

Richard Wild, from WeatherNet said:” A front in Scandinavia is bringing up warm winds from Europe and even as far away as Africa.

“It’s doing this by ‘blocking’ the normal movement of pressure systems around Europe.

“What people forget is to use suncream.

“Even at this time of year, the UV index is high, so wear a hat, pop on sunglasses and factor 50 suncream and when the sun is at its peak.

“Between the hours of 11am and 3pm, find shade at this is the time when the sun is at its highest point in the sky and posing the greatest risk of burning people.”

Temperatures will drop from Monday onwards, with ground frost expected in some areas during the early parts of the morning.
