A TEACHER has been nominated for two different awards in this year's Worcestershire Eduction Awards.

Ashlea Brewer, from Lickey Hills Primary School, has been nominated for both Teacher of the Year and New Teacher of the Year, being described as "the best teacher in the world" in one of the six different nominations Worcester News has received for him.

Mr Brewer, 24 is originally from Malvern, and says he knew from the start that he wanted to work at the school, where he has been since 2016.

He said: "I came here for a placement while I was doing my PGCE and knew immediately that it was the right place.

"It is a lovely, leafy green school in a really nice area so I love being here.

"The most rewarding part of my job is getting to know the pupils as individuals as this helps you get to know what makes them tick and how to teach them.

"Just like when Mrs George was nominated, it is a real team effort from everyone at the school and all the staff work hard to try and provide the best education possible."

Headteacher of Lickey, Amanda Salisbury, paid tribute to Mr Brewer, saying: "He is a great asset to our brilliant staff team and, although a recently qualified teacher, Mr Brewer has a very firm but fair approach in his teaching style and the children enjoy the challenges he provides in their learning.

"Mr Brewer has involved himself in many aspects of our school community including supporting Year 6 on their PGL residential visit and just recently supported the science festival with the Year 4 sleepover event, walking in the woods on our bat walk.

The deadline for nominations is April 18. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Worcester on June 20.
