WEAPONS and drugs have been found as part of an operation to crack down on contraband at HMP Hewell.

The recent operation, led by police in Bromsgrove uncovered drugs and a knife.

It was done in conjunction with prison staff.

Police Inspector Dave King said it was another successful operation targeting those bringing contraband into HMP Hewell.

It is the second operation carried out in the last few months.

It follows a report in this paper about how the Tardebigge prison was slammed as "inhumane" and not fit for the 21st Century.

In a report by the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), HMP Hewell was accused of having a growing drugs problem and told it was not providing a service fit for the 21st Century for inmates or staff.

The annual report said the prison provides a poor environment for prisoners and is yet to overcome the widespread use of illicit drugs and mobile phones.
