A WOMAN in her 80s had her credit and debit cards stolen from the boot of her car during a distraction theft in Kidderminster.

The elderly woman was shopping at the Co-op supermarket in Franche at around 12pm on Saturday (February 9) when she was approached by a man saying he had noticed something hanging from her car.

The man then distracted the pensioner by walking her around her car, then asked her to open her boot, where the woman had placed all of her shopping bags and handbag.

He then asked the woman to look at the dash while he tried to locate the object that was hanging from the car.

The male said he had sorted the problem and the woman left the scene.

She later noticed that her card holder, including her credit and debit cards, had been stolen from her handbag. The cards had since been used to withdraw money from her account.

West Mercia Police is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The man is described as around 5ft 6, of medium build, in his 30s with a foreign-sounding accent and possibly eastern European.

A police spokesman said: "If you have any information that can assist police with their ongoing enquiries please call 101, quoting reference 0487s."
