A FAMILY-run business with its roots firmly in the Vale has suddenly closed.

A notice on the the company's website reads: "We regret to inform you that as of 18th January Vale Kitchens has ceased trading.

"We would like to take this opportunity to convey our deepest, heartfelt thanks to all our loyal customers, friends and business associates over many years.

"Without your loyal support our success over the last 50 years would not have been possible but under the current business climate, particularly in retail, we have been left with no option but to take the traumatic but unavoidable decision to cease trading.

"Formal notice will be forwarded to those affected.

"Thank you once again, we wish you all the very best for the future."

The firm has grown from an appliance repair business in the late 1960s to a supplier of modern and traditional kitchens, bedrooms and appliances almost half a century later. Staff were known for home visits, while free delivery was offered within 30 miles of Evesham.

The Cheltenham Road, Evesham, was begun 46 years ago by Vernon Powell who was born and bred in Dumbleton.

Vernon later took a back seat while son Andrew took over the reins after being brought up in the trade.

The firm, which offered kitchens including English and German bespoke designs, posted after Christmas it was a running a special new year sale, with heavy discounts in its bedroom department on all beds.

The company also had a smaller outlet in Cheltenham, which will close as result of the firm ending trading.
