A 60-YEAR-old man has been fined for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

Hereford Magistrates Court heard that Cyril Fletcher of Bishopswood, Ross-on-Wye was convicted of indecent assault and rape in 1998 and was jailed for eight years.

As a result, in December 2012 he was made subject to a ten-year SOPO, which prevents the defendant from remaining overnight or residing at any address with a person under 16, unless he has obtained prior approval and unless supervised by a person of parental responsibility.

On December 19 last year he pleaded guilty to breaching this order and also to failing to comply with notification requirements for the sex offenders register.

The court heard he had allowed a child to stay at his home last August, where his wife also lives, without notifying the authorities.

He was sentenced last Wednesday. Magistrates fined Fletcher £133 and ordered him to pay £185 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. The SOPO will remain indefinitely in place.
