A SEAT on Warndon Parish Council will be up for grabs this week following the resignation of a councillor.

Four candidates have been put forward for a place on the parish council after Councillor Les Morris relinquished his place in November.

The residents of Warndon North will go to the polls on Thursday (December 13) with Andrew Cross, Andy Graham, Steph Mills and Andy Jones hoping to be elected.

Polls open at Woodgreen Evangelical Church in Hastings Drive from 7am and close at 10pm.

No polling cards have been sent out to homes across the parish to save money.

Andrew Cross has lived and worked in Warndon Villages for 18 years and is an active member of St Nicholas Church and the Friends of Warndon Villages.

Mr Cross said he is passionate about planning and the sustainable development of the city.

He said: “Our parish council must adapt and change, consulting with and engaging local residents effectively to bring new ideas and initiatives into effect so that our parish and community do not descend into apathy and disrepair.”

Andy Graham is an experienced ecologist who wants to bring his expertise to the council.

He said: “I want to see the things we all cherish, the woods, the ancient trees, the ponds, the meadows all looked after much better. Incredibly, there’s no plan in place to do this - this needs to change.”

Mr Graham wants to work with surrounding communities to improve public transport and tackle social isolation.

Andy Jones said he wants to help the community in Warndon feel “more connected” to give it a louder voice and ensure the council is doing what is right for the area.

He said: “As somebody who runs a couple of businesses in the private sector I am a logical thinker who likes to get things done with as little bureaucracy as possible.”

Steph Mills has lived in Warndon Villages with her husband and two young children for eight years. She is an active member at the Lyppard Hub’s toddler group and is a registered childminder.

She said: “I do not have a political agenda; I am a working mum who is committed to making a positive impact in her local community.

“I am willing to stand up and ask the difficult questions, fight for the rights of all members of our society and I will work to make our parish a welcoming, inclusive and thriving community.”
