THE Regal Cinema in Evesham will be showing Mary Poppins Returns from the first day of its national release, on Friday December 21.

And there will even be a Christmas day screening.

Josie Chapman, the publications manager for The Regal said there is every reason to be excited.

She said: "The Disney sequel, which is set to be one of the top ten best films of 2018 according to the US National Board of Release, will be showing at The Regal throughout the festive period, including a special 4pm showing on Christmas Day and a dress-up event on New Year’s Eve.

"Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt (who fills the shoes of Julie Andrews as the title character), is one of the longest awaited sequels in film history, with a 54 year gap between the first and second film."

Josie added: "Some of Evesham residents may even remember watching the original Mary Poppins at The Regal Cinema when it was first shown back in the 1960’s.

"The film is set 25 years after the events of the first film, when the Bank’s children Michael and Jane receive a visit from Mary Poppins following a family tragedy. A 92 year-old Dick Van Dyke also returns to play Mr Dawes Jnr. (son of his original character, Mr Dawes Snr).

"Mary Poppins lovers can also expect the return of the famous penguins, in a charming sequence combining live action with hand drawn animation, much like the original. With all the magic of the first film, and of any Walt Disney production for that matter, this is not one to be missed."

Josie said: "The Regal Cinema has already received a huge amount of interest surrounding the film."
