RESIDENT, Mary Codrington, at Hagley Place Care Home in Ludlow, had always loved boats and the water and wanted to take a trip on a canal boat.

Mary Codrington has lived at Hagley Place for just over a year.

Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her wish come true, as they knew how much it meant to her.

Michelle Jones, Head of Activities at Hagley Place, found out about Mary’s wish earlier this year.

She was told of the charity, the Heulwen Trust, based in Welshpool, who provide a service for the disabled and the elderly to go on canal boat trips.

The trip set out from Welshpool and toured the canals before stopping at the docks in town to pick up a fish and chip lunch before continuing.

“What a wonderful surprise, I never thought I would be able to go out on the water again, thank you to everyone at Hagley for such an amazing day,” said Mary.

Michelle Jones, Head of Activities at the home said it was good to fulfil a wish for a resident.

“I am just so happy for Mary to be able to get back on the water,” she said.

“She has been talking about her sailing adventures for quite a while and she was sad that she couldn’t go on a boat again and am so grateful to the Heulwen Trust for the amazing service they run and to Nicky Bowler and Hazel Litten for coming with us and making the day special for Mary and the other residents who came.”
