THE Worcester cafe owner who thought that selling biscuits which joked about the rape allegations facing Cristian Ronaldo was clearly very foolish, and may now heavily regret the stunt as people on social media call for a boycott of his business.

After the backlash over the biscuits, Jose Goncalves, owner of Our Taste of Portugal, said: “We only made 30 of them and our clients and friends found the joke.”

If Ronaldo had been accused of having an affair, perhaps people may have found the biscuits – which show two people having sex – amusing.

But the footballer is accused of rape, which is simply not a laughing matter, although it must be said that a number of popular high-profile comedians have made jokes about the subject without facing such a big backlash.

However, although this joke was certainly in poor taste, it seems a step too far to call for a boycott of the cafe, as many people have done on Facebook and Twitter.

Mr Goncalves will no doubt have learned his lesson and a mass boycott of his business will lead to his staff losing their jobs.

Let’s just move on.
