THOUSANDS of people flocked to Alcester town centre at the weekend to take part in the Court Leet’s annual street market.

The event saw many visitors and residents donning their best superhero and supervillain costumes and invading the streets.

Music provided by Alcester Victoria Silver Band and Alcester Male Voice Choir kept the crowds entertained throughout the day.

Stalls, shops and pubs throughout the High Street were decorated in line with the theme and the market began with a parade.

Prizes were awarded for the Best Fancy Dress, there were also awards for Best Themed Pub with The Cross Keys taking first place, The Three Tuns in second and The Turks Head coming third.

Best Stall was won by Alcester Academy PTA with Alcester Alauna Rotary Club in second and The Dog and Partridge coming third.

Best Dressed Shop went to Headway and in joint second place was Mustard Mash and Classic Clutter.

Alcester Court Leet High Bailiff Ian Whitehead described the event as a "roaring success".

"The community of Alcester were out in force to support the event which saw music playing throughout the day," he said.

"I was thrilled to see so many people joining in with the theme and dressing up in fancy dress costume on the day."

The street market was held on Sunday, June 11.
